Groundhog Day (US)

In the US today is informally known as Groundhog Day - the day when, ostensibly, an overgrown rodent in Western Pennsylvania predicts the weather over the next few weeks for the entire country.

Still, it was a good movie.

Today a White-winged Crossbill put on a spectacular showing at the brush pile in Hammonasset Beach State Park, CT.  Here, for your enjoyment:







Yes, he has the entire pine cone in his beak!
 
 

Finally, the Red-breasted Merganser made himself available again.
