Today Was Spectacular

Absolutely phenomenal.  The day began with a light fog which quickly lifted.  When I arrived at the "Rock Pond" at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison, CT, the sun was low and the fog hung low.  A Little Blue Heron was feeding up close to my side of the pond.  Patience paid off.

As the fog lifted I had the opportunity to reel off several hundred photos of a breeding plumage male Little Blue.  The water was like glass, except for the occasional ripple created by the bird himself.  Witness:

And, my favorite of the bunch:

While the Little Blue was moving about, a Snowy Egret flew in and offered some equivalent opportunites.

After the Little Blue/Snowy Extravaganza, I turned my attention to a pair of apple trees very nearby.  Warblers and other species are making their way through the area, and I managed to nab the following:

1) Yellow Warbler

2) Orchard Oriole

   b) Female

    c) Transitional Male
3) I am told this one is a Baltimore Oriole, not an Orchard Oriole.

In all, it was a banner day!
